Chandigarh

Designed by the Swiss-French architect, Chandigarh is UT and the capital of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is India’s first planned city and is a manifestation of a great leader- Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. The greenery, richness, and prosperity have won the title for the place- “ THE CITY BEAUTIFUL ”.

 

The place is famous for its traditional Punjabi food and culture that is infused with modern trends. Besides the Gedi tradition that means the leisure ride is also one of the popularity of Chandigarh that makes it an exciting road trip spot for Delhiites.

History 

After the 1947 partition, Chandigarh that remained as a part of India was selected by the Indians to make a modern & brand new state capital. Chandigarh is the dream place envisaged by India’s first Prime Minister and accomplished by popular architect Le Corbusier on the Indo-Gangetic Plain at the foothills of the Siwalik Range.

 

Places to Visit

Rose Garden

Also known as Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, Rose Garden is an enticing & popular botanical garden that exhibits around 825 varieties of flowers with 32,500 arrays of trees and shrubs having medicinal value. Rose garden is the largest garden of its type in Asia and located in sector 16 in Chandigarh. Misty mountains in the back and a hueful fountain adorns the beauty of the garden.

Tourists Attractions: Drinks, food, joyrides, photography, landscaping, gardening, bonsai, carved-out lawns, flower beds, and Rose Prince & Princess. 

Time to visit: Flowers fully bloom in February and March. 

 

Sukhna Lake

Sukhna Lake is a beautiful and relaxing man-made lake at the foot of Shivalik Hills that offers water thrills like yachting, boating, water skiing, and sports activities like the trampoline, rowing, and jumping alongside the Solar Cruise. Walkers and Joggers carry out their fitness activities at the promenade of the lake as it is one of the longest rowing channels in India that entertain the Asian Rowing Championships. Tourists enjoy the relaxing boating tour of Sukhna Lake.

Tourist Attractions: Boating, Shikara Ride, Bull Ride, Camel Ride, Water & Sports Activities, Le Corbusier Sketches.

Time to visit: From January to April and August to December.

 

Pinjore Garden

Pinjore Gardens is a mesmerizing Mughal Garden that was built in 17th Century India in the city of Pinjore and expands over an extensive area of 100 acres. Tourists from different parts of the world come to the Pinjore gardens to loosen up with nature and to get enchanted by the Mughal creation that India has preserved carefully and proudly.

Rock Garden

Rock Garden is a massive garden spread over 40 acres and an exotic open-air mosaic of art and sculptures. The Rock garden was built by government officer Nek Chand in 1957 and today it is recognized as a long-standing symbol of imagination and novelty in Chandigarh. With approx 5,000 statues built entirely out of industrial and urban waste, the Rock Garden has laid an ideal example of ‘Best From Waste’.

Tourist Attractions: Man-made interlinked waterfalls, Sculptures, Leisure Valley, Walks through different installations & embellishments.

 

Government Museum & Art Gallery

Established in August 1947, Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh is one of the most popular museums in the country that proudly puts forth the history of India and partition. A huge accumulation of paintings, artifacts, Gandharan sculptures, Rajasthani miniature paintings makes it a prominent place to be visited by history lovers.

Capitol Complex Tourist Center

Capitol Complex is a government compound, situated in sector-1 of Chandigarh. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by the architect Le Corbusier over an area of 100 acres. With a total of three buildings, three monuments, and a lake, it showcases the prime architecture of Chandigarh through Secretariat, High Court, Tower of Shadows, Open Hand Monument, Geometric Hill, and the Palace of Assembly.
